The US is NOT a Democracy
Contrary to popular belief the United States of America is NOT a Democracy.
We are in fact a Constitutional Republic.
Here’s the difference:
A democracy is where the citizens, not representative of the citizens, participate in the decision making.
Now for the smart ones out there- there is something called a representative democracy, however, as you will see this isn’t the same as a constitutional republic
A constitutional republic is where the officials are elected as representative of the people BUT- they are limited to governing within the power afforded them through their constitutional laws. Thus, limiting the governments power over its people. (this is the part missing from a representative democracy)
So next time someone says something about the US being a democracy kindly explain to them that they are incorrect.
"It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."
- Sir Winston Churchill
